Prof Ralf Haese
Professor in Environmental Geochemistry Geography, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences - University of Melbourne
Professional Bio
Professor Ralf Haese is an expert in aqueous geochemistry. He studies gas-fluid-rock reactions, reactive-transport in porous rocks and pore scale processes and he develops technologies to ensure safe and efficient geological carbon storage. He combines laboratory and field experiments with geochemical modelling in his research.
Prof Haese received his PhD in Earth Sciences from the University of Bremen (Germany) in 1997 and subsequently worked as a post-doctoral researcher (marine geochemistry) at the University of Utrecht (The Netherlands). In 2003, he joined Geoscience Australia as a senior scientist and project leader for Coastal Research and Management. He became the project leader of the CO2CRC project on Reactive Reservoir Rocks in 2010. In 2013, he joined The University of Melbourne as Professor of Environmental Geochemistry. He was appointed as Director of the Peter Cook Centre for CCS Research in 2017. He teaches Environmental Geosciences and Hydrogeology & Environmental Geochemistry and supervises MSc and PhD students.
